New Kitchen Appliances

On December 2008, I was able to get a good deal on home appliances from Best Buy. My kitchen needed a new range oven and a space saver microwave (the one on top of the range). When I bought the items, I was asked if I needed to install the microwave. I figured how hard it could be to install it myself, so I did.

I remove the old range oven to make space. You will need this to be able work around the microwave and remove it. I removed the bolts that attached the microwave to the wall. There is also a grid on the wall which is used to hook the microwave in place. I installed the new grid and drilled new holes on the top cabinet because the new microwave does not have the same bolt layout as the old one. I decided to stick with the same brand (GE) to try to minimize the modifications, but I still had to do some work. The hardest part was getting the new microwave on the grid. You need at least two people to do this in a safely way. Once the microwave was on the grid, the rest was easy. I screwed the bolts from the top and done. The new kitchen was then roll into place, and my kitchen rejuvenated 20 years:

I can now enjoy my new appliances. I will keep you posted in any other progress I make.

I have a new AC

It has been a while since I posted any updates. I now have the time, and I would like to update everyone on the progress. On Dec 2007, I got my new AC system. It was a 4 tons 13 seer units. The old unit had worked for 14 years. It was leaking freon and kept breaking every two months. The new unit is so quiet. It is way more efficient. My FPL bills have gone down about $20. Well, I now just need to move on to the next task on the list.

These are pixs from the old unit:

Initial Thoughts

My name is Dani. I have realized that my home is no longer the place I wanted it to be. I have neglected its maintenance, and the hurricanes here in Florida have not helped either. After hurricane Wilma, my home was left in bad shape. The tiles on my roof had come off. The front door was blown in, and many of the trees around the house collapsed. All thanks to Wilma. A couple of years after that and with a new roof which took a while to repair due to insurance delays, my home looks better. I then started to reflect and realized that there are so many other areas that I need to address. This blog is dedicated to that. I want to track and document the changes I need to make, and perhaps by getting some opinions, I can do a wonderful job at creating Dani's New Home.

There are so many areas that I need to work on that is difficult to decide where to start. This is the list of items that I need to work on:

  • Replace AC Unit
  • Replace Front Door
  • Repair Sliding Doors Frame
  • Master Bathroom
  • Front Yard Landscape
  • Replace Second Floor Carpet
  • Replace Garage Door

The items below are part of my wish list. These are the items that I think will be cool to have and/or upgrade:

  • Update the Alarm System
  • Update kitchen Appliances
  • Remodel Cabinets
  • Install Solar Power cells to power fans, etc

I will continue to elaborate more on those items by posting comments and pics of the before and after results.
